Congratulations to Brett Bottomley

Congratulations to Brett Bottomley, elementary instrumental music teacher, for being recognized as the Shepherd Glen Teacher of the Year! Mr. Bottomley is one of the most patient, creative, thoughtful music teachers we have ever met, and all of his students are inspired and motivated by his calm but persistent teaching. And despite working in multiple buildings, he is deeply involved in the school community, joining committees, building connections with colleagues and families, and going above and beyond to improve the school as a whole. He is also one of the most active performers in our department, and if you can't find him you're likely to find him jamming out on his chapman stick. We are so proud of Mr. Bottomley for earning this recognition!

Voice of Hamden 2025

What a wonderful evening of music at The Voice of Hamden IV! We were dazzled by our amazing guest judges, Linda Bonadies, Kat Bower-Phipps, Linedy Genao, and Gabriella Riccio, and all of our student contestants did a fantastic job! Congratulations to all of our performers, and thank you to the Hamden Education Foundation for sponsoring this wonderful celebration of music.

The HPS music department strives to provide opportunities for all students to develop their skills as performers, creators, and listeners, and most importantly help all students develop a love of music in their own unique way. Students in grades K through 6 receive general music instruction, and students in upper elementary grades have the opportunity to also take instrumental lessons and participate in band, orchestra, and/or chorus. In 7th grade all students choose one music course, and many options for ongoing music instruction are available in 8th-12th grade, including instrumental ensembles, chorus, theory, music technology, and more.
